About Us

The Society

Sri Ganesh Temple in Vancouver was inaugurated by a group of well wishers from British Columbia who realized the need to erect a temple to satisfy the spiritual interest. of people worshipping Lord Ganesh. The Temple Society became a Charity Organization. in British Columbia since 1999.

The Lord Sri Ganesh’s deity was donated to the devotees by the Late Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami,  founder of  the Kauai Hindu Monastery, a traditional South-Indian style monastery-temple on the Island of Kauai in Hawaii.

Our Vision for the Sri Ganesh Temple Society

Our vision is to create a ‘meeting place to the thousands of Hindu families that live in B.C and Canada. To instill a surrounding that provides exceptional spiritual, cultural, educational and social programs and services. As Lord Ganesha transcends the various religious believes, we intend building a Temple that reflects our traditional values and to provide a larger place for worship than the one we have at present.

Where are we now?

Sri Ganesh Temple is open daily for morning and evening worship, Abishekam and Puja are performed during this time. Special poojas and religious activities are held to celebrate certain holidays and festivals per Hindu Tamil calendar.

Where do we want to be in 2035?

We envision building a centre that will provide the necessary facilities for the following activities for the devotees of Sri Ganesha.

  • Meditation, spiritual and recreational activities for Children, Youth & Adults
  • Spiritual & Health Learning and respite for Seniors
  • A Library with multi-media learning for the young and the old
  • Temple, Congregation Hall & Housing for Deities and a Priest’s Residence
  • Weddings & Events Hall with Kitchen & Food Service Areas
  • Class rooms, Restrooms & storage area
  • Car Park & Garden
